Practice Nurse, in Glanmire Medical Centre for the last 16 years. I joined the practice with Dr. Tadg Grufferty and Dr. Elizabeth Ryan in 1997. I am married with two daughters.
I am working in General Nursing for 35 years. I started training in St. Finbarr’s Hospital, Cork in 1978 and graduated in Cork University Hospital, January 1981, An Bord Altranais. I worked as a staff nurse with Professor Kirwan, Consultant General Surgeon for 6 months and with Professor Brady, Vascular Surgeon before completing Midwifery training at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading in 1983. I subsequently returned to Cork University Hospital and worked with Mr. Michael O’Sullivan, Consultant in Neurosurgery, Mr. Mc Guinness, Orthopaedic Consultant, Gynaecology Ward, Accident & Emergency and Dressing Clinic, Out Patients Department with Mr. O’Connor and Mr. O’Shaughnessy, Plastic Surgeons.
I completed the ICGP/Bord Altranais training as a Practice Nurse, at UCC 1996 and was awarded certificate for leg ulcer presentation. I completed family planning/smear taking course at St. James Hospital, Dublin 1996. I also completed a course in Managing Patients with Leg Ulceration, Mercy University Hospital, Cork 1998.
Graduated with diploma in Asthma, National Asthma and Respiratory Training Centre, Warwick U.K. 1998. Awarded Clinical Nurse Specialist General Practice post CNS post/An Bord Altranais 2001.
Completed certificate in Professional Development Programme, Southern Health Board, 2008. Spirometry Training for Practice Nurses course in 2010. Clinical update for smear takers in 2010. Preceptorship Course at University College Cork for teaching student nurses in general practice placement in 2010. Also teaching practical clinical skills to final medical students from UCC under the supervision of Dr. Tadg Grufferty, Lecturer/Director of GP undergraduate training and post graduate general practice training.
In 2011, I obtained BSc Nursing Module Certificate in “Acute and Chronic Wound Care for Health Professionals, UCC, I also completed a BSc Nursing certificate module in Diabetes Management, UCC and Mercy Centre of Nursing Education in 2012. I currently hold a certificate in Anaphylaxis Programme, Mercy Centre of Nursing Education, July 2013.
I am an active member of the Practice Nurse Association, Cork Branch since 1997 and was also a committee member.
